‘May’ and ‘might’ can also be used to suggest that whilst one there is one fact, there could well be another which is equally as valid. ‘May’ and ‘can’ are both used in order to demonstrate that something is permissible, though ‘may’ is the more formal option.

Both "may" and "can" are used to indicate that something is allowed, but "may" is more formal: "You may leave whenever you like" is more formal than "You can go
